From NYC, you can take MetroNorth up to Poughkeepsie and rent a car or take Amtrak to Hudson, NY. There’s also a bus directly into Palenville.

There are several options on places to stay in Palenville. Each place is 5-7 minutes away from our home/studio.

The preferred choice of many workshop students is THE CLARK HOUSE, a nice Victorian B & B run by a British and French couple who are our good friends. You can see their lovely place at www.catskillsbb.com . Their gourmet breakfasts are enough to bring participants back for more. The rooms here range from $115-$225 and all have private baths. They can be reached at 518-678-5649. Be sure to mention that you are here for a workshop in case there is a discount. They have a old sky blue barn that we use for shooting outings.

Another good Catskill location is a farm inn called THE KAATERSKILL (www.thekaaterskill.com) which is a renovated barn in a beautiful setting with 6 guest rooms. They have a walking trail that runs along Kaaterskill Creek and have a resident pig, lots of rabbits and horses to complete the setting. You can also bring your pets.

An inexpensive family motel is the RED RANCH INN. The rooms are a little out-of-date but spotless. A great place to stay if you want a real deal. The rooms are about $55-75.

A casual option is the CATSKILL MOUNTAIN LODGE. Like your standard, family-oriented motel, it is very basic. Rooms range from $95-$165 and does not include breakfast. There is a restaurant on the premises but the restaurant hours are often changing. The number is 518-678-3101.

If you would like a little more space and your own personal paradise, you have to check out the WATERFALL HOUSE. This private house is only blocks from the studio and has two private waterfalls. The house rents for $250-350 per night and can sleep 4-6 people. The rates vary according to season. So if you want something very special or if you're coming with your entourage, this would be the place.

And if you want more shops and a nice Main Street, the villages of Saugerties and Woodstock are 8 and 11 miles away and offer other lodging options. Although these towns are close, you might prefer Palenville if we have early morning shooting trips.

Give us a call if you have more questions about your visit (518) 678-7186.
