This is my first group of Pigment Over Platinum prints. As you might surmise, I am combining a hand-coated platinum/palladium print with digitally applied, archival color pigments. It's a thrilling learning experience as I renew my appreciation for color without abandoning my passion for the handmade print.

Yes, there were the technical challenges of pigment adhesion and registration of the two media on the watercolor paper. The most difficult and exciting element is controlling how much of the final hybrid image is comprised of platinum and how much of pigmented color. I discovered I can make the rich browns of the platinum blend into the soft pigment colors with a titillating subtlety.

To the best of my knowledge, I am the first photographer to work in this hybrid medium. Without a doubt, there will be legions to follow, just as there were after I pioneered the digital negative ten years ago.
