Pigment Over Platinum

The Pigment Over Platinum technique was originated by Dan Burkholder in 2001. Burkholder first prints a color image using archival pigment inks on 100% cotton rag paper. This print is then taken to the darkroom and coated with platinum/palladium sensitizer and exposed using a digital negative under UV light. The rich, platinum tones complete the print and the unified, resulting image is an archival platinum print with a wash of color. The two disparate materials combine to create a unique and sensuous palette.
